How to keep your accounts safe as an independent musician

6 Music Industry Topics Every Musician Should Learn More About

Why independent artists should be wary of streaming fraud

Random Related Artists
Click on some of the artists in the playlist and go to their “Fans Also Like” section. If these recommendations consist of artists from completely different genres or with unclear indian email list profiles, then look elsewhere. This may take some time, but it’s always better to take time to be sure than to regret it later. To be safe, I recommend checking 5 or 6 “artists.”

Incoherent followers
If a playlist takes off with thousands of followers, shouldn’t the playlist creator themselves have a similar number of followers on their personal profile? That’s typically how music streaming works, right? You gain organic followers for your music, and they follow you back. (That said, if a playlist has a huge discrepancy between the number of followers and streams on the playlist and the curator’s profile, that’s a big telltale sign that bots are wreaking havoc.)

You might be thinking… “How is it possible that these fake playlists exist?”
Through independent distributors with limited oversight, these “fake” artists scam their way through the process and upload infringing content right under the distributors’ noses. While these practices are strictly prohibited, these impersonators simply lie, using false information along with various other tactics in the hopes that no one will notice until it’s too late. It sounds too easy to be true, but it works. In fact, it’s worked so well that these impersonators have been making insane amounts of money off of music they had no rights to.
