Gap in the market
The fast-growing sports platform was founded by two sports fanatics: 28-year-old Andy Meikle and 26-year-old Arron Shepherd . They saw a huge gap in the market: “There are many social networks but none that are really tailored for sports fans. The experience for fans is quite a lengthy and disjointed one as it means having to visit lots of different sites that have different functions.” According to the founders, the strength of Sportlobster lies in the curation and customization: “We bring all content together and customize it. With Sportlobster, you get exactly what you want, in one place, tailored to your preferences in sport.”
As a user, you decide for yourself which sport, competition and athletes you follow. From the range of 35 sports, I have chosen football and tennis. Within football for the Champions League and Ajax and within tennis for men's tennis and Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. (To name something very obvious. Ping pong or Polo is also possible.)

The ultimate sports experience
What is there to do on Sportlobster? First of all, just like on Facebook, you can post and share messages, photos and videos. You can follow other sports enthusiasts and 'like' or respond to their articles. You can also write a blog yourself and comment on a match, line-up or performance. You can also read the live scores, final scores, the programme and the standings. You can also add important matches that are on the programme to your personal sports agenda. Then you know what's going on.
Sportlobster TV
Sportlobster filters the latest sports news based on your preferences. On the site (and on YouTube ) you can also watch Sportlobster TV. A talk show with more than 128,000 followers. The viewers can choose the topics themselves.
Ajax versus PSV
A fun part is the results that you can predict. You are offered all upcoming matches of the sports that you have chosen. Then you indicate who you think will win. Your prediction is placed as a message in your timeline. For every correct prediction you get points. Sportlobster keeps track of how many predictions you have made and what your accuracy is. Those with the most points find themselves on the leaderboard.

Paid services
By the way, you can also get points for articles you write. In the future, Sportlobster wants to turn these points into virtual currency with which users can get discounts on products. Once a critical mass has been reached, Sportlobster will introduce a number of paid services, including video streaming, merchandise sales and various 'gamification tools' (read: betting games). The basics will remain free, the creators promise.
A winner? is limited to 7 sports:honduras mobile phone number list football, rugby, tennis, cricket, golf, basketball and Formula 1. This will gradually be expanded to 94. The same goes for the language. At the moment everything is in English. In March this year, Sportlobster will be available in multiple languages. Also in Dutch. The multilingualism will give the sports network a big boost. The same goes for the major sporting events that are coming up: the Football World Cup and the Winter Olympics. Founder Meikle sees a bright future in any case :
“We want Sportlobster to be the place to talk about sport with fellow fans. In five years, every sports personality, broadcaster and sports fan will be on the network.”
I personally think Sportlobster has a good chance of success. For three reasons:
It fills a gap in the market;
It serves a target group that is large and interesting for major advertisers;
It is based on three major developments that are taking place: segmentation , mass customization and content curation .
PS: Where does that name come from?
The name Sportlobster was suggested by one of the investors. It turned out to be the name that stuck best. But what does sport have to do with a lobster, you might wonder. The idea is as follows: a lobster remains as loyal to its partner its entire life as a supporter to its club, team or athlete.
