Restricting Internet Access in the Workplace: How to Avoid Going Overboard with Blocking Websites and Apps
Vitaly Orlov | 31.07.2018
Measures that restrict employees' access to the Internet can be both useful and harmful. How can we find the golden mean? How can we ensure that the restrictions we introduce are not more harmful than their absence? We tried to find a solution.

1. , casinos, torrents and "18+" are definitely subject to blocking (it is difficult to imagine an employee who could prove the need for sites of the listed categories to operate). Firewalls already have entire lists ready for blocking this kind of thing: "Dating sites" or, for example, "Game sites". It is more difficult with torrents, online casinos and porn resources - they periodically disappear and appear on other domains. To help - content analysis of pages by certain words (in our experience, the use of content analysis allows us to effectively block resources of this kind).

2. Next in line for blocking are social networks. Blocking is not allowed? To put a comma in the right place, let's look at an employee who goes on social networks during working hours. Who is he? What malta whatsapp data do on social networks? And finally, why does he do it? There are categories of employees for whom blocking access to social networks is recommended - these are accountants, receptionists, security guards at the control panel, etc., that is, employees whose duties do not involve using social networks as a tool for achieving the results of the work performed. And vice versa: PR employees, sales department employees, HR specialists are typical representatives of the group of employees for whom it is inappropriate to block access to social networks. Following the same logic, we will leave job search sites open for the HR service and management, but close them for everyone else. Of course, such Internet access settings are possible if the firewall used has functions for dividing users into groups and granting certain rights to different groups of users.
