Sharing your contacts

Post by Bappy11 »

We know the drill by now: a new app is launched, a hype starts, the number of users skyrockets, and then you see the messages about 'bad privacy' appear. Think TikTok, but Zoom has also experienced this. And now it's time for Clubhouse.

In this article I describe what the most discussed privacy issues of Clubhouse are at the moment and how you can delete your account.

Once you download the app, Clubhouse will ask you to share your contact list with fax lists them. This way, you can invite your friends to join (you need an invite to download the app). This feature is nothing new for a social media channel, but sharing your entire contact list is still a big deal. And Clubhouse seems to do a little more with this data than other channels.

In addition to data about you as a user, the app also collects data about your contacts. Even if they do not have a Clubhouse account. And therefore also without their permission. As soon as you share your contact list with the app, you as a user determine that the phone numbers of your connections are known to Clubhouse.

Suppose that all sorts of people in your area have downloaded Clubhouse. You are curious and decide to download the app too. Without sharing your contacts right away, because you want to browse anonymously first.
