The next thing we needed was a name. In hindsight, we probably could have come up with a better name, but we named it CellarThief.
You see Thief is a tool used by winemakers to take samples of wine from barrels during the winemaking process. We thought it was a cool play on words since we also try to offer great wines at “cheap” prices.

After coming up with a name, we then had to create a logo. So, we contacted 99 Designs, asked our friends to vote on the logos we received, and chose a logo.
Our logo for CellarThief - looks dated now but we're really excited about it
With our concept, name, and logo, it was time to build our website. We asked a friend to come up with a unique design and partnered with a small dev shop to build our site on a CMS/ecommerce platform that was soon to be acquired by Adobe. We wanted the site to be cool, inspiring, and fun.

Finally, we had to figure out the source of the wine. Luckily, our algeria phone number list team had connections in the wine industry – both to wineries and distributors. The idea was simple – if we could sell a lot of a certain wine in one day, would they give us a big discount that we could then pass on to our customers.
Wineries and distributors embraced the concept and we were able to quickly have the best line of wines we could offer at affordable prices. We gave them an estimate of how many cases we would sell and they would store them and we would pick them up and ship them to our customers.
We believe that storytelling is a key part of what we do, so we’re excited to interview winemakers, tell the story of wineries, and help our customers connect with the people behind the wines we sell.
After a lot of the pieces fell into place, CellarThief was born. It was a small company, with no outside funding. It was just a few friends trying to build a great little business to help people drink great wine at an affordable price. And, it made a big difference.
